Viharkumar Patel, MD, FASCP
Vihar Patel, MD, FASCP is an assistant professor at the University of California, Davis, and is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. He completed his pathology residency at the University of Wisconsin, Hospital and Clinics and neuropathology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston. He received his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences at University of California, Davis, and is a graduate of St. George’s University, School of Medicine. Dr. Patel is a fellow of ASCP, where he consistently volunteers his time and efforts in service to ASCP. He currently serves on the Pathologist Council, is a past member of the Resident’s Council, is a mentor through the ASCP Mentorship Program, and an active Pathology Ambassador. By practice, Dr. Patel is a surgical neuropathologist who enjoys teaching. As a pathologist, he holds a unique appointment as the biochemistry co-discipline lead for UC Davis Medical School, sharing his passion for biochemistry with medical students. Dr. Patel’s inspiration to pursue neuroscience, and ultimately neuropathology, is inextricably linked to skateboarding, a passion of his since the age of 10. As skateboarding and medicine are the two parts that make him whole, Dr. Patel co-founded the Skaters Advancing Brain Education and Research (SABER) Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of brain health and disease and advocating for the youth. Through SABER, Dr. Patel provides exposure to pathology as a career to high school students, increasing the scope of pathology as a medical profession and giving back to the skateboarding community.
