Jessica Bankey, MPH, MLS(ASCP)CM
Jessica Bankey, MPH, MLS(ASCP)CM, is an associate clinical professor and program director of Medical Laboratory Science at Bowling Green State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Bowling Green State University and a master's in public health from the University of Toledo, where she completed internships in infection control and occupational and environmental health. In her current role, Ms. Bankey teaches multiple courses and serves as administrator for the university's four-year on-campus MLS program. She spearheaded the creation of an online MLT to MLS degree completion program to provide a flexible option for current laboratory professionals to advance their education and careers. This program increases accessibility of clinical laboratory education, particularly among working professionals and those with geographical barriers. She also advises and mentors students academically and organizes recruiting and outreach events for high school student groups, providing opportunities to learn about different laboratory professions and participate in hands-on activities. Her primary goals are to increase recruitment and retention in professional programs, provide students with the skills and knowledge to succeed as medical laboratory scientists utilizing innovative teaching methods, and raise the profession’s visibility through interprofessional collaborations and advocacy.
